How do I see what's playing on the TV right now?
With Screen Capture, the dashboard asks the app for an image of what the TV is showing at that moment. The image opens in a new window, and this usually takes a few seconds.
Important: the TV must be online. When it's offline, the Screen Capture button is disabled.
From the TV page
- In the TVs menu, click the TV's name.
- On the Settings and Status tab, under Commands (at the end of the Status and Information group), click Screen Capture.
From the TV list
In the list in the TVs menu, each TV has a button with a camera icon in the Screen Capture column. Click it to open the capture for that TV.
In the capture window
The window shows the TV's name and the progress in three steps: Command sent to the TV, Capturing screen, and Loading image. When the image appears, the dashboard shows Captured at, with the date and time.
Once the image has loaded, you can:
- Click the image to enlarge it. Click again or press Esc to close it.
- Click Actual size to open the image in another tab.
- Click Download image to save the capture as a JPG. If the download doesn't start, the image opens in another tab: right-click it and choose Save image as.
- Click New capture to request a new image from the TV.
If the TV has been rotated to portrait from the dashboard, the capture is already displayed and downloaded in the correct orientation.
If the capture doesn't appear
| Message in the window | What to do |
|---|---|
| It's taking longer than usual | Check that the TV is online. Depending on the TV's network connection, it may take a little while. Wait or click Send command again. |
| The TV appears to have lost communication | The capture may not load. Check the TV's connection and try again. |
| Could not load the image. Please try again. | Click Send command again. |
| Login expired. Close this window and log in again. | Close the window, log back in to the dashboard, and take the capture again. |
The image is completely black
On some Android systems, YouTube videos appear black in the capture, but they keep playing normally on the TV. See Screen capture shows a completely black image. Is this a problem?.
On TVs with older versions of the app where Video Playback Mode has the options Normal, Optimized, and Highly Optimized, this also happens with videos when the option is set to anything other than Normal. See How do I adjust file scaling and video playback mode on the TV?.
