What's the difference between the app and the Monitor App?
The app is what displays your content on the TV. The Monitor App is a helper app for Android devices: if the display app freezes or the system stops playback for any reason, the Monitor restarts the display of your content. Most of the time this isn't even necessary, but it helps keep your content on screen at all times.
How to tell if the Monitor is installed
On Android devices, the TV page may show an App Monitor row under Status and Information, with the Monitor's status, for example:
- Not installed
- Online - Working
- Offline - No communication
When the Monitor makes a difference
- Restarting the app from the dashboard. On some Android devices, the Restart App command only works with the Monitor. In these cases, the dashboard shows the message Install the Monitor App to be able to restart the App remotely.
- Newer versions of the app. On many Android devices, the app itself can already restart on its own. On these devices, the Restart App button appears even without the Monitor.
- Monitor stopped. If the TV is online and the Monitor is offline, the Restart App Monitor button appears. See What does each remote TV command do?.

The Auto Monitor option
On Android devices, the Extras tab, in the App group, has the Auto Monitor option. It determines whether the app should automatically reopen when it is closed.

| Disabled | The app does not restart automatically if it is closed. |
| Enabled (default) | The app restarts automatically if it is closed by the system or for any other reason. |
| Always Active | The app restarts even when someone exits it using the BACK / HOME or SLEEP buttons. Only use this if you're sure of what you're doing. |
To change it:
- In the TVs menu, click the TV's name.
- Click Enable Editing.
- Open the Extras tab.
- Choose an option under Auto Monitor.
- Click Save.
It may take a few minutes for the change to take effect, and it only applies when the TV is online.
Important: Auto Monitor cannot be turned on until the Display over other apps permission is granted on Android. In that case, the dashboard shows the option as Disabled along with a warning. On the device, go to Settings > Apps > Special app access > Display over other apps and enable the app.
