How do I see what is currently playing on the TV?

With Screenshot, the dashboard asks the app for an image of what the TV is showing at that moment. The image opens in a new window, and this usually takes a few seconds.

Important: the TV must be online. When it is offline, the Screenshot button is disabled.

From the TV page

  1. In the TVs menu, click the name of the TV.
  2. On the Settings and Status tab, under Commands (at the end of the Status and Information group), click Screenshot.

From the TV list

In the list in the TVs menu, each TV has a button with a camera icon in the Screenshot column. Click it to open the screenshot for that TV.

In the screenshot window

The window shows the name of the TV and the progress in three stages: Command sent to the TV, Capturing screen and Loading the image. When the image appears, the dashboard shows Captured on, with the date and time.

Once the image has loaded, you can:

  • Click the image to enlarge it. Click again or press Esc to close it.
  • Click Actual size to open the image in another tab.
  • Click Download image to save the screenshot as a JPG. If the download does not start, the image opens in another tab: right-click it and choose Save image as.
  • Click New screenshot to request a new image from the TV.

If the TV has been rotated to portrait in the dashboard, the screenshot is shown and downloaded the right way up.

The image is completely black

On some Android systems, YouTube videos appear black in the screenshot, but they continue to play normally on the TV. See The screenshot shows a completely black image. Is this a problem?.

On TVs with older versions of the app where Video Playback Mode has the options Normal, Optimised and Highly Optimised, this also happens with videos when the option is set to anything other than Normal. See How do I adjust the scaling of files and the video playback mode on the TV?.
