How do I update the TV app?
Each TV's page shows the installed app version and whether a newer version is available. How you update depends on how the app was installed on the device.
How to check for updates
- In the TVs menu, click the TV's name.
- On the Settings and Status tab, under Status and Information, check the App Version field.
One of these labels appears next to the version number:
| Label | What it means |
|---|---|
| Up to date | The app is already on the latest version. |
| Will be updated to and the version number | The app will update automatically the next time it starts. You don't need to do anything. |
| Update Available | A new version is available to install. Click the label to see how to update. |
When a newer version is available, the Latest Available Version field shows which one it is.
Tip: if Will be updated to appears and you want to update sooner, use the Restart App command. See What does each TV remote command do?.
How to update
When you click Update Available, the dashboard shows the instructions for your case.
Installed from the app store
If the app was installed from the Google Play Store or the Amazon App Store, it updates automatically. If it doesn't, check that automatic updates for the store are turned on on the device. In some cases, the store may take days to update the app.
Installed from the APK file
If you installed the app using the APK file, you need to update it manually: download and install the new version using the links in the window. We recommend installing the app from the store so that future updates happen automatically.
App with your company's brand
If the TV uses the corporate app, generated with your brand, and it was installed with the installer, you need to update it manually. Under Download the updated App, the window shows the .APK / Android or .EXE / Windows link. If you access the dashboard through your company's domain, you can also download it by typing your domain address in the browser followed by /download/android or /download/windows.
If a message says the app is being updated and will be available in a few minutes, wait and try again.
If your branded app was installed from a store, it only updates automatically after the update file (.AAB) has been submitted to the store. See How to generate your branded app.
Older Windows version
In some versions, you need to uninstall the current version from Windows before installing the update. In this case, the window shows the App installer for Windows link.
Other notices on the TV page
- On Android devices with very old versions, the dashboard shows: It is highly recommended to update the App on this TV!, asking you to uninstall the previous version before updating.
- Some features only work on newer versions, and the dashboard shows a notice in the field itself, for example in Rotation.
- On some devices used in portrait mode, the dashboard warns you not to update the Android system to version 10, because the device would no longer work in portrait mode. This notice is about the device's system, not the app.
Note: if you access the dashboard through your company's own domain, update labels are shown only to administrators.
