How do I set the TV to portrait mode or rotate the image?
To display content with the TV mounted vertically or upside down, adjust the TV's Rotation field in the dashboard. The app rotates the image without you having to change anything on the device.
How to rotate from the dashboard
- In the TVs menu, click the TV's name.
- Click Enable Editing.
- On the Settings and Status tab, under Basic settings, choose an option in the Rotation field.
- Click Save.
| Option | Result |
|---|---|
| Default | No rotation applied by the app. |
| Rotate 90° right | Vertical image, rotated to the right. |
| Rotate 90° left | Vertical image, rotated to the left. |
| Rotate 180° | Upside-down image. |
Choose right or left depending on which way the TV was rotated on the wall.
It may take a few minutes for the change to take effect, and it only applies while the TV is online. After you save a 90° rotation, the Resolution field under Status and Information will show (Vertical).
When you need to rotate on the device itself
On some Android devices that are already set to vertical in the system settings, the dashboard doesn't show the rotation options and displays this message: To rotate the screen on this device, go to Settings -> Display / Video on the device and change the rotation. In this case, make the change on the device itself. The exact menu name may vary from one device to another.
When you need to update the app
If the Rotation field shows Update the app to make sure screen rotation works on this device., the installed version is too old for this feature. See How do I update the TV app?.
Important: on some devices used in vertical orientation, the dashboard warns you not to update the Android system to version 10, because the device would stop working in vertical orientation. Follow this warning.
Tips
- Not every device works well in vertical orientation. The list of recommended devices shows which ones work with rotation: Which Android devices are recommended?.
- Prepare images and videos in vertical format so they fill the entire screen.
- The Screenshot of a TV rotated 90° from the dashboard already appears in the correct orientation.
