How long can I leave the app running without interruption?
It depends on the device's operating system:
- Windows: the app can run for weeks without any problems, with no need to restart the app or Windows.
- Android and Smart TVs: we strongly recommend restarting the app before it reaches 2 days of uninterrupted playback.
Why restart on Android and Smart TVs
Android handles apps of this kind differently and may freeze them after about 30 hours of running. This time varies depending on the Android version and the device.
How to make the device restart every day
- Plug the device into the TV's USB port. That way, it switches on at the start of the working day, when the TV is switched on, and switches off at the end of the working day, when the TV is switched off.
- Use a power timer if you can't use the USB port. Set the timer to cut the power to the device at a set time and switch it back on at the start of the working day.
For the app to open by itself when the device is switched back on, the Auto Start option on the Extras tab must be active (Enabled or Power only). See The app doesn't open by itself when I switch on the TV. What should I do?
When the TV needs to run 24 hours a day
In places that operate 24 hours a day, such as airports, you can:
- set the power timer to switch the device off at a quieter time and switch it back on 1 minute later; or
- use a Windows device.
Restart the App automatically option
On TVs with older versions of the app (before 3.9.7), the Extras tab shows the Restart the App automatically option, which restarts the app every hour or every 2 to 24 hours. It is only recommended for TVs that stay on all the time and use Android devices or Smart TVs.
- In the TVs menu, click the TV's name.
- Click the Extras tab.
- Click Enable Editing.
- Under Restart the App automatically, choose the interval (or No to disable it).
- Click Save.
This option doesn't appear in the latest versions of the app. In that case, follow the recommendations above.
