What does each remote TV command do?
Each TV's page has a Commands group, with buttons that send an action to the device over the internet, such as restarting the app or viewing a screenshot. You don't need to click Enable Editing to use them.
To find it: in the TVs menu, click the TV's name and, on the Settings and Status tab, look for Commands at the end of the Status and Information group.
Important: commands only reach the device when the TV is online. When the TV is offline, the buttons are disabled.
The buttons shown depend on the device's operating system, the app version and your user permissions. The restart commands and Clear cache only appear for users who can edit TVs.
What each command does
| Command | What it does | Where it appears |
|---|---|---|
| Screenshot | Shows an image of what the TV is displaying at that moment. | On all TVs. |
| Restart App | Restarts the app on the device. It can take up to 3 minutes. | Windows and Android devices that support remote restart. |
| Restart Monitor App | Restarts the Monitor App. It can take up to 1 minute. | Android with the Monitor App installed, only when the Monitor is offline. |
| Restart Computer | Restarts the computer. It can take up to 5 minutes. | Windows only. |
| Clear cache | Clears the cached files on the device and restarts the TV. It can take up to 3 minutes. | More recent versions of the app. |
When to use each one
Screenshot
To check whether the TV is showing what it should. See How do I see what is currently playing on the TV?.
Restart App
Use it when the app seems frozen or is behaving strangely. You don't need to restart for a changed playlist to appear: the TV updates itself. See Does restarting the app make a changed playlist appear faster?.
On some Android devices, instead of the button you will see the message Install the Monitor App to be able to restart the App remotely. Find out more in What is the difference between the app and the Monitor App?.
Restart Monitor App
Only appears when the TV is online and the Monitor App is offline. Use it to get the Monitor working again.
Restart Computer
Only for TVs running Windows. It restarts the whole computer, not just the app. Use it when restarting only the app doesn't solve the problem.
Clear cache
The dashboard itself advises: only use it if you are having problems playing content.
After sending a command
- A message confirms it was sent, for example: Restarting app on the TV, please wait up to 3 minutes.
- The button is locked for a few moments. If you see Please wait a few seconds before sending this command to this TV., wait and try again.
- If the dashboard says the command was sent but it could not verify whether it was received, wait a few seconds and check whether it took effect.
- Keep track of what the app is doing in the Last Information field, under Status and Information.
Tip: to restart several TVs at once, select them in the TV list and use With selected... and then Restart. Only online TVs receive the command. See How to manage several TVs at once.
