How do I turn video sound on or off on the TV?
Sound is controlled in two places: in the TV's Audio option, which applies to everything the TV displays, and in the audio option of each video in the playlist. The two work together.
TV Audio option
It is on the TV page, in the Extras tab, App group.
| Option | What happens |
|---|---|
| Disabled | The app never plays the audio of the content, even if audio is enabled in the playlist. |
| Enabled (default) | The app plays audio by default, but follows the setting of each item in the playlist. |
| Always On | The app always plays audio, even if audio is disabled in the playlist. |
To change it:
- In the TVs menu, click the name of the TV.
- Click Enable Editing.
- Open the Extras tab.
- Choose the option under Audio.
- Click Save.
It may take a few minutes for the change to take effect, and it only applies when the TV is online.
Note: if the Audio option does not appear in the Extras tab, update the TV app. See How do I update the TV app?.
Audio for each item in the playlist
In the playlist, after you click Enable Editing, items that can have sound have an option to choose Yes (with audio) or No (muted). All of them start with Yes:
- Videos from your files: Video Audio.
- YouTube Video and Vimeo Video tools: Video Audio.
- Movie Trailers entertainment: Trailer Audio.
- AllRecipes | Tastemade entertainment: Audio of the Videos.
- Tags / Folders tool: Audio of the Videos.
When you choose entertainment and tools, items that can play sound have a speaker icon with the tooltip Can be shown with audio. To learn about the other item options, see The options for each item in the playlist.
How the two options combine
| TV Audio | Item set to Yes | Item set to No |
|---|---|---|
| Disabled | No sound | No sound |
| Enabled | With sound | No sound |
| Always On | With sound | With sound |
